The power of touch: Why getting a massage Matters
By the end of this blog I hope you have a better understanding of what massage is and why it is important to everyone.
History of massage
We can’t have an understanding of massage without its origin. Massage has been around for centuries. It is not a new craze that one person has stumbled across. The first known Chinese text is on massage therapy dates back to 2700 BC. It is called “The Yellow Emperor’s Classic Book of Internal Medicine.” Over the years massage has evolved much like the modern medicine we see today. There is a lot that can be discussed about the evolution of massage, how ever I will allow you to venture down that rabbit whole on your own. The human power of touch is amazing. Massage uses kneading and gliding strokes with the hands. Now there are many different types of massage but we will not be discussing those today. We will talk about massage in more of a general sense.
Massage is known for relaxing the body and the mind. I want you to think about that for a second. Think about the most relaxed you have ever been. Imagine that memory placed into your muscles allowing them to go back to their normal state. That is what massage does for your muscles. Massage keeps them relaxed and stretched out. When your muscles are relaxed it allows your mind to focus and keep your body running smoothly. Massage also lowers your stress response allowing for circulation to improve. Good circulation is vital to your nervous system, your heart, your muscular system and your lymphatic system. Massage helps with the tension and pain you feel in your muscles. Muscular tension can cause a number of problems for example headaches.
